Why is yoga beneficial for cross training?

  • Creating balance in the body.  Athletes who train a sport that is one-sided can cause lateral imbalance such as golf and tennis

  • Increasing flexibility in athletes that train sports which require specificity of movement (using the same muscles over and over such as running and cycling) which can cause extreme tightening of certain muscles over time 

  • Using specific poses to improve longevity, prevent injury, quicken pace of recovery

  • Emphasis on form, breath, and mindfulness that translates across all sports

 

Ways to incorporate yoga in to a training regimen

  • Pre/Post workout poses and stretches

  • Core strengthening

  • Myofascial Release

  • Pranayama

  • Meditation
